New Flood Maps

Video of May 1st, 2018 FEMA Flood Map Update:

This was a two-hour presentation, but the heart of the latest information is mostly from 1:04 to 1:20. If you're not familiar with floodplain transects, you might start at 0:59:30 minutes to gain a little more background information on this topic.

At the end of this program, we moved off-camera to view new Storm Surge Study maps FEMA presented. (Click here to view these maps.)

FEMA Flood Map Update:

FEMA will be holding a public meeting to share results of its storm surge analysis, which is one of the first steps toward the overall flood remapping effort expected to be completed sometime during 2020.

The current Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs dated 2005) are expected to remain in effect until 2020.

Contrary to some recent media reports, new preliminary flood maps haven't been presented and haven't yet been developed.

Remapping the community involves a five-stage process spanning five years: 1.) Data Acquisition & Analysis, 2.) Floodplain Mapping 3.) Preliminary Maps, 4.) Final Maps 

The first phase is underway: Data Acquisition & Analysis

The next update is scheduled for the fall of 2017. DELAYED BY HURRICANE IRMA DISASTER RECOVERY EFFORTS. NEXT UPDATE NOT YET SCHEDULED.
