The City of Key West and the City Commission this week honored Code Enforcement’s Sophia Doctoche, for her 10 years of dedicated service to the City.
The honor was presented by Code Director Christopher Counsellor.
Doctoche started with the City in 2016 at the marina. In 2017 she moved to Code Enforcement as an officer. Since then, she has been promoted through multiple roles based on performance, leadership, and results. She now serves as Senior Code Officer.
“Sophia has seen and done a lot in her time in Code Enforcement,” said Counsellor, “from COVID enforcement to damage assessment after Hurricane Irma. She handled a high-profile cosmetic shop case that made the front page of the Keys Citizen in 2019. She was a key player in 2022 and 2023 when a seat count inspection was conducted of the then 317 licensed food establishments in Key West. Sixty-five were found in violation which resulted in over $207,000 collected in unpaid impact fees. Her most impactful work, however, has been in identifying transient/non-transient rental violations.”
As of 2026, Doctoche has handled over 163 transient cases and 733 non-transient cases, helping recover over $135,000 in fees owed to the City.
“Overall,” said Counsellor, “Sophia has had well over 2000 total code enforcement cases and taken over 150 cases to the code board. All of this while also helping a new director learn the City of Key West. Sophie’s dedication truly makes a difference and strengthens our community.”
