The City of Key West is pleased to announce that our recent audit report has received the highest form of recognition in state and local government accounting and financial reporting. The City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2024, has once again been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
This is the 40th consecutive year that the City has received this outstanding honor.
“This recognition is a remarkable accomplishment,” said City Manager Brian L. Barroso in a letter to Finance Director Christina Bervaldi. “Earning this distinction requires not only technical accuracy and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles, but also a commitment to transparency, full disclosure, and clear communication of the City’s financial story. Your team has once again demonstrated excellence across all of these areas.”
The Government Finance Officers Association advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for its members and the communities they serve. Established in 1945, the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program encourages state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that demonstrate the spirit of full disclosure. The program recognizes governments that successfully achieve this high standard.
“This recognition reflects the professionalism, diligence, and expertise of you and your staff,” wrote Barroso. “This achievement also speaks volumes about the quality of your leadership and the strength of the Finance Department’s ongoing work in serving our community.”
