Mayor Declared Precautionary State of Emergency

In an abundance of caution, Mayor Teri Johnston has declared a state of emergency in Key West.

The declaration allows the City to respond quickly to a fluid public health emergency. Should anything change in the coming seven days, this declaration allows fast action in securing public safety. That could include the ability to cancel large events.

This declaration also allows the City to recoup any funding spent in response to the threat COVID-19. It allows the City, if necessary, to reach out for emergency assistance

Already the Florida Department of Health has declared a public health emergency, and Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency.

This proactive approach in Key West leaves the community in a better position to respond, should things change locally.

As of Sunday, there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Monroe County.
