Lt. Jewell Named Officer of the Year 2014

Key West Police Chief Donie Lee named Lt. Areaka Jewell Officer of the Year for 2014.

Lt. Jewell has served with the Key West Police Department since 2002, starting her career as a city-sponsored cadet at the Florida Keys Community College Institute of Criminal Justice. The Department was reaccredited by the Commission of Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation under her supervision in 2009. She has earned numerous commendations during her years with the Department. She was promoted to Sergeant in 2010, and promoted to Lieutenant in 2014.

She brings to the Department her excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, a relentless work ethic, and a well-honed leadership ability. Lt. Jewell goes well beyond her professional duty when it comes to supporting her fellow members, especially in their time of need. In addition to acting as a motivating force behind fundraising for the Love Fund, Lt. Jewell has dedicated tremendous amounts of time, care and energy this past year helping Sgt. Eric Biskup, who is fighting pancreatic cancer.

Lt. Jewell was also honored by the Key West Chamber of Commerce with their designation of Officer of the Year for 2014.
