Special Olympics Day

Mayor Craig Cates on Wednesday proclaimed October 13th Special Olympics day in honor of the 80 local athletes who are participating in this year's Special Olympics. The program, founded in 1972, is completely managed by volunteer efforts and provides year round sports training and healthy competition.

The athletes participate in five sports:  aquatics, bocce, bowling, cycling, and stand up paddling. The athletes are also taught courage and skills along with enjoying the friendship and community involvement that come with such team efforts.
