Marybeth Barter was promoted to Senior Administrative Assistant in 2025, continuing a journey with the City of Key West that began in 2016. Initially brought on as a part-time employee to help digitize records ahead of the move to the new City Hall, Marybeth quickly became a valuable asset to the Planning, Building, and Licensing Departments. In 2018, she joined the Building Department full-time as a Permit Technician and has been an integral part of the team ever since.
In 2021, Marybeth earned her Certified Permit Technician designation from the International Code Council, further strengthening her expertise. She now steps into the Senior Administrative Assistant role previously held by Martha Arencibia, who was promoted to Executive Administrator to the City Manager.
Originally from Massachusetts, Marybeth made Key West her home in 1995. She’s married to a Conch and together they’ve raised four proud Conch children. She holds a BA in psychology from Merrimack College and brings a blend of professionalism, heart, and deep community roots to her role. Marybeth is excited to embrace this new chapter and continue serving the City she loves.
