Melissa Freling, P.E., serves as the City Engineer for the City of Key West, bringing a strong background in environmental and civil engineering, as well as public infrastructure. Born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, she developed an early appreciation for the state's unique coastal and water resources. She is a graduate of the University of Central Florida, where she earned a degree in Environmental Engineering.
Melissa spent every summer in the Florida Keys with her family during lobster season, fostering a lifelong connection to the area. These experiences shaped her passion for protecting marine ecosystems and strengthening coastal resilience. Outside of work, she is an avid fisherman and diver who values firsthand engagement with the natural environment. Melissa believes the health of the environment is directly linked to a community's mental well-being and overall wellness. In her role as City Engineer, she is committed to sustainable infrastructure that preserves Key West's character while supporting its future growth.
