Community Services

The Community Services Department is responsible for the areas of Public Works, Recreation, Facilities Maintenance, the Historical Cemetery and Fleet Services. Community Services is the second largest department in the City.
The Community Services Department allows five departments to function as a team in order to accomplish goals and objectives. Sharing similar skill sets, labor, and equipment is necessary to complete projects as efficiently as possible and expand the ability to provide cost-effective services to our citizens and guests.

    Small dog-friendly beach where your best friend can swim! Located at end corner of Vernon Ave. and Waddell Ave.

    Located adjacent to the MLK Jr. Community Pool at 300 Catherine St., Nelson English Park boasts a children's playground, basketball courts and picnic areas with pavilions and grills.

  • Rest Beach / C.B. Harvey park
    Rest Beach / C.B. Harvey Park is a beach-front park with boardwalk, picnic facilities and shoreline for wading and shell searching and is located at White St. & Atlantic Ave.

  • Smathers Beach
    As one of the four beaches within the City, Smathers Beach is one of the largest and is well known by visitors during spring break. Amenities include restrooms, shower facilities, volleyball courts, a boat ramp and jet ski rentals. Smathers Beach hosts approximately 150,000 patrons annually. Parking is free. No overnight parking.

  • Simonton Street Beach
    0 Simonton Street / Beach front with boat ramp and restrooms / Open 7:00 AM - 11:00 PM / Restrooms open 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM

    Simonton Street Beach has a small beach with a boat ramp for recreational boats.

  • Bayview Park
    Bayview Park in the center of Key West has five public tennis courts and a Pro Shop, Pepe Hernandez softball field, basketball courts, playground equipment area, pavilion, six restrooms and an open area for picnics and family gatherings.

    Bayview Park is also the home of the Boys and Girls Youth Club which offers summer and after-school programs for the youth. The Pepe Hernandez softball field has CO-ED games Monday through Thursday year round with approximately 250 players. This facility also accommodates ultimate Frisbee, kickball and several tournaments yearly.


  • Bill Butler Park
    Open park area with playground equipment.

    Located at Poorhouse lane and Windsor lane, Bill Butler park is a quiet neighborhood playground/picnic area for the residents of the area.

  • Frederick Douglass Gym
    The Frederick Douglass Gym is an indoor basketball court and activity room. A tutorial program is offered at the gym after school Monday through Friday to children in need of after school tutoring. This program is free. There is also a basketball league housed at the gym that runs from December through March and consists of a boys league playing 55 games and a girls league that plays 11 games.

  • Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center
    Enter the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center and take a journey into the world of the native plants and animals of the Keys, both on land and underwater. Leave with an increased awareness and appreciation of the need to protect and conserve the ecosystem of South Florida.

    Admission and parking for the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center is free.

  • Blake Fernandez Skate Park
    Blake Fernandez Skate Park is a modern 7500 Sq. Ft. park that includes half and quarter pipes, ramps, grind rails, jump boxes and open spaces for skateboards and in-line skates.

    The park is located at the corner of Flagler Ave. and Glynn Archer Dr.

    Hours of operation are
    12:00 PM-9:00 PM daily, closed from 3:00-4:00 for attendants lunch.

  • Wickers Sports Complex
    Located at Kennedy Dr. and Flagler Ave., Wickers sports complex features a softball field that hosts year round leagues and a football field for the youth football league which plays from August through December.

  • Clayton Sterling Complex
    Located at 900 Kennedy Dr., the Clayton Sterling complex houses four baseball diamonds with approximately 600 children involved during the season from February through July.

  • Rosa Hernandez Softball Field
    Located between Northside Dr. and Kennedy Dr., the Rosa Hernandez complex houses one softball field that hosts approximately 200 kids from February through May.

  • Sonny McCoy Indigenous Park
    Sonny McCoy Indigenous Park is a native tree and bird park. Group and individual tours are available with advanced notice. Within the park is the Wildlife Rescue Center that cares for injured wildlife, a wildlife trail and pond, picnic area, and 6 bocce courts. There is a pavilion that can be reserved for various special events like weddings, meetings, birthday parties and graduations. Contact is through the Key West Wildlife Rescue, Inc.

    The park is located at 1801 White St.

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Community Pool & Community Center
    The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.Community Pool houses two pools. One baby pool and a standard swimming pool. Also housed at 300 Catherine Street is the Willie Ward Park which has a small playground and picnic tables along with the Nelson English Park which has basketball courts, a playground and open space for picnics.


    Lap Swim Hours 9:00 AM-11:00 AM Daily.

    Open Swim Hours 11:00 AM- 5:45 PM Daily

    Water Exercise Class Tuesday and Thursday at 5:45 PM

  • Astro Children's Park
    Astro Children's Park has a playground and picnic areas with pavilions and picnic tables and is located at Higgs Beach at Atlantic Ave.

    Hours: 6:00 AM - 11:00 PM

  • Cozumel Park
