The City of Key West Solid Waste Transfer Station is located on Rockland Key behind Toppino's Rockyard headed towards the water.

All of the municipal solid waste collected in the City of Key West is processed at the Transfer Station.  Garbage is transported to the Broward County Waste-to-Energy Facility, Wheelabrator, via the City's contractor Waste Management of Florida, Inc.  Recyclables are transported to the Reuter Disposal and Processing Center in Pembroke Pines, FL.

The Transfer Station accepts: yard waste, construction debris, recycling and metal. However, all items must be separated by the customer before bringing it to the site. Customers bringing mixed loads will be directed by the scale attendant to unload these items in different locations on the property and weigh in and out for each material. WE DO NOT ACCEPT MIXED LOADS. Residents may bring household garbage and yard waste to the facility but they will be charged a tip fee.  Recycling will have no charge for businesses or residents.

We accept recycling from businesses at no charge.

WE DO NOT ACCEPT END OF LIFE ELECTRONICS OR HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS AT THIS FACILITY.  LOADS WITH THESE MATERIALS WILL BE DENIED!  For chemicals and electronics we have a Free Drop Off once a month, First Saturday, at Sonny McCoy Indigenous Park, 1801 White Street, the first Saturday of the month from 8:00 am to Noon for City of Key West residents only.  Monroe County residents and businesses can go to any of the Monroe County Transfer Stations.  For more information call 305-745-4307.

The City of Key West has a Solid Waste Master Plan.  The goal with this plan is to create a map to guide the City towards increasing our recycling rate, maximizing our waste diversion, and creating a pathway towards a zero-waste community.
