Keep Key West Beautiful

Help us Keep Key West Beautiful by Volunteering!  KKWB is a local affiliate of Keep Florida Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful.  Our goal is to keep our City beautiful and beautify it even more if possible!  KKWB sponsors local cleanups and beautification projects.  Some of our programs that you can get involved in include:  Local Cleanups (Plogging The Keys), Adoption Programs, Cigarette Recycling Brigade, Coastal Cleanups, and the Great American Cleanup.

Plogging The Keys is a local cleanup program where the City selects a location each Friday morning at 8:00am-9:00am for a cleanup.  We accept suggestions of locations needing a cleanup.  For more information contact Dee Dee Green at or 305-809-3776.  Also check out our Facebook page Plogging The Keys and Keep Key West Beautiful.

The Adoption Program gives private citizens, businesses and civic groups and opportunity to support the city-wide anti-litter campaign by selecting an area to maintain and beautify.  Locations for adoptions include beaches, roads, neighborhoods, canals and other Spots.

Adopted areas are maintained as part of a joint effort to keep our environment clean and healthy and participation in the program is free!

If you were part of the Key West Clean and Green Program, contact us and we will switch you to the new program.

For more information or to get involved call 305-809-3776 and speak to Dee Dee Green or send an email to

Adopt-A-Spot Program Information

The Pledge

Volunteers enter into a one-year agreement with The City of Key West, during which they agree to conduct litter removal at least 6 times a year. Many miles of beaches are adopted statewide by various organizations, allowing civic-minded people to make a difference in their communities. This helps protect our environment and way of life in Key West. Even beaches that are cleaned daily by large equipment have litter so small it is missed.

Volunteers Agree to:

  • "Adopt" a section a spot in Key West
  • Dedicate one year to the program
  • Follow specified safety regulations
  • Remove litter a minimum of four (4) times each year
  • Turn in a sign in sheet with volunteer names for each cleanup
  • Report how much garbage was collected during cleanup (number of garbage bags)

KKWB Agrees to:

  • Assist with safety meetings
  • Provide litter bags and pickers if needed
  • Pick up litter at specified locations
  • Post Adopt-A-Beach Program sign commending the group

In order to take part in the Adopt-A-Spot Program you need to contact The City of Key West Solid Waste Coordinator at 305-809-3776 or email at

Cigarette Waste Recycling

We are collecting cigarette waste for recycling.  That's right, cigarette waste.  Butts, ashes, the plastic wrapper... everything but the box (that goes into your regular recycle bin.)

To set up program contact Dee Dee Green at 305-809-3776

How does the program work?  You collect the waste in whatever way is the easiest for you.  When you have 5-10 pounds worth, call us and we will pick it up.  Next we print out a free shipping label from TerraCycle, mail it off and bam, they turn the waste into a bench or another plastic wood type item!  For every pound collected a $1 is donated to Keep America Beautiful Cigarette Litter Program.
