Community Vision Plan:

The City of Key West is embarking on a Community Vision Plan for Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square. A Community Vision Plan tries to capture the public’s input, ideas, and opinions in order to find solutions to a common goal.

The City is asking the community to participate with input on:

  •  lighting

  •  seating

  •  signage

  •  landscaping

  •  shade

  •  future uses

  •  refurbishments

The City is asking for public input and ideas through community meetings,  surveys, and charrettes.

What does your Sunset Celebration look like?

A Community Vision Plan takes inspiration from the past and looks towards the future. The City is proposing two phases for our community vision, a short-term phase, and a more long-term phase. Short term phases include signage, lighting, and shaded areas. Long term phases include landscaping, hardscaping, seating, and re-zoning.

  • Sunshades / Shade Sails
  • Pavilions
  • Sculptural Shade Structures

Seating:  Seating is an invitation for people to stay and enjoy their public environment; the weather, the views, the people, the happenings. The City aims to create more and better seating opportunities by looking at the following options:

  • Park Benches
  • Tables with Umbrellas
  • Moveable Chairs
  • Landscape Berms
  • Seating Incorporated with Landscape / Hardscape

Lighting:  Lighting invokes feeling, promotes safety, and encourages social behavior.  The City is hoping to get comments on how to use light to create a sense of space, invite residents and tourists to come to the Historic Pier at all times of the day, and stay a while by utilizing:

  • String Lighting
  • Streetlamps
  • Landscape Lighting
  • Ground Lighting
  • Lighting under docks, bridges, or underwater

Signage:  Signage attracts, invokes a theme, creates anticipation, and transports you to a destination. Signage needs to be seen, whether it is on the ground, at eye level, in the sky, etc.  The City hopes to add signage around the area to create a space, tell a story, and convey a message. The City wants the Public's opinion on:

  • Banners
  • Archways
  • Directory Signage
  • Floor Signage
  • Wayfinding Signage
We would like to hear your voice. Please take a moment to fill out this survey which aims to capture the community's comments, goals, hopes, and vision for Key West's historic heart. The City is reviewing ideas for Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square.
