Despite less-than-ideal weather, a group of Irreverent Warriors gathered from all over the country in Key West this weekend for a walk to kick off Silkies Hike Week.
Irreverent Warriors is a force that unites the veteran community and drives a healthy culture within its members through creative engagements, events, and strong veteran-based support networks to work as the catalyst for improving the veteran outlook.
The Irreverent Warriors’ mission is to bring veterans together using humor and camaraderie to improve mental health and prevent veteran suicide.
All this week, the community will see veterans dressed in the tiniest of shorts (aka silkies), working to help veterans connect to eliminate the average of 22 veterans' suicides a day.
During last week's meeting, Mayor Teri Johnston and the City Commission proclaimed Irreverent Warriors Key West Silkies Hike Week.
