Police Chief Sean Brandenburg, during the annual Key West Police awards ceremony, presented the Unit Award for the Motor Unit. The Grand Key Resort hosted the ceremony.
Officers Alex Gaufillet, Jesse Young, Michael Pettee, Michael Andruzzi, Randall Hartle, and Derek Wallis accepted the award.
"The Motor Unit goes above and beyond every day by fulfilling their police duties while embracing community service," said Chief Brandenburg. “This unit skillfully rides in close formation, navigating our streets to secure parades, escort dignitaries and funerals, and secure several other ceremonies. They enforce traffic laws and conduct traffic homicide and driving under the influence investigations. This unit's outreach is appreciated by so many in the community. They participate in school activities while keeping school zones safe. The Motor Unit dramatically enhances the efficiency of the department."
He said that the Motor Unit's outstanding skills reflect the Department's highest professional standards.
