During their March 1 meeting, the Key West City Commission recognized the generous support that the Key West Elks Lodge 551 provides the community.
"The Key West Elks Lodge 551 have served the veterans and youth of Key West for decades," reads the proclamation, "through scholarship programs, grant programs, and volunteer service for individuals and non-profit groups."
Through the Covid pandemic, the organization supported several non-profits, including Take Stock in Children, Kids Come First, Florida Keys Cancer Society, Volunteers of America, and the SOS Foundation, with grants funded through the Grand Lodge Gratitude Grant program.
Members of those organizations and more joined the City Commission at the dais holding banners proclaiming the support.
The Elks Lodge 551 is selling raffle tickets for a grand prize full-day trip to Fort Jefferson aboard the Yankee Freedom, the second prize of a sunset cruise on the Schooner America and Schooner Wharf gift certificate, and a third prize award of $100, the proceeds of which will continue this important mission.
