As the 2021 hurricane season approaches, it’s time to prepare.

May is the perfect time to start stocking up your shelves and revisit your family hurricane plan. Do you know where you’ll evacuation, should the occasion occur? Are all your vital documents in one place? This month is the idea time to trim overgrown foliage and take down those big clumps of coconuts in your trees. Stock up your shelves and take advantage of the Florida sales tax holiday to stock up on batteries or purchase a generator. The sales tax holiday is slated to run from May 28th to June 6th.

For residents of Key West, hurricane re-entry stickers are available at City Hall, 1300 White Street. You must be able to prove Key West residency. For those who live outside of the city limits, please contact the Monroe County Tax Collector’s Office. And a reminder for those who live on Stock Island: only the north side of the island falls within city limits.

It’s been four years since Hurricane Irma, and the community may have gotten rusty at being vigilant. Now is the time to make your plans and prepare… just in case!
