It’s been seven months since the Key West Fire Department and a group of generous members of the community began rebuilding the home that Miss Alelia Butler, lost to fire over two years ago.

Recently the community came together at the nearly finished home to present Miss Butler with a $500 donation from Manley DeBoer, raised by the Key West Fire Department’s Union Local 1424.

In January of 2019, the Fire Department responded to a fire at 813 Galveston Lane just before 4 a.m. to find a mobile home fully engulfed in flames. The homeowner, Miss Butler, barely got out alive, but she lost everything.

The community responded immediately. Thanks to an amazing group of people, led by Key West Fire Department Capt. Jason Barroso and the generous donations of many, construction is nearing completion on her new home.
