It was only fitting that, following the recent Key Lime Festival, the Key West City Commission would declare July 6th as Kermit Carpenter Day.
Carpenter, owner of Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe, “is a pie-oneer of the Key lime pie industry who has devoted more than a quarter-century of his life to the perfection, production, and promotion of Key lime pie,” according to the proclamation.
Aside from his delicious creations, Carpenter is known for his unique means of promoting his business, standing outside the Shoppe in a lime-green chef’s outfit proffering a pie to passers-by.
