- Building & Permitting Information
Building permits are required prior to any work or construction of any kind, permanent or temporary, that has a value greater than $1,000 including materials and labor at the discretion of the building official. Building permits shall be required for any structural modifications regardless of the cost. Non-structural work valued at less than $1,000 is exempt from permitting if all the work is interior (doors/windows facing the outside are considered exterior).
All permit applications may be submitted online 24/7, or in person at the Building Department, 1300 White Street, between the hours of 7:30 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
All submittals for permits must be made in complete packages. Incomplete submittals shall be returned to the contractor/owner. The permit application must contain a complete scope of work and the cost for such work. Although not required a signed contract may be supplied that would assist staff in determining the validity of the cost of construction.
All licensed individual trades to perform work on a project will be responsible for their own application submittals and subsequent inspections requests. At the time of application, there will be a $50 fee assessed for processing that will be applied to the final cost of issued permits.
Certain specific information must be submitted at the time of application to the building department. Depending on the type application applied for, the information required at time of application may vary. Please review your permit with staff for completeness as this will ensure maximum service.
