Pit Bull Awareness Month

Bruce sat quietly on the floor of the Old City Hall Commission chambers as Commissioner Tony Yaniz presented a proclamation on his behalf.

"Pit Bulls have endured an unfair reputation as a dangerous breed for years and been stereotyped and demonized," Yaniz read from the proclamation that sets October aside as Pit Bull Awareness Month.

Pit Bulls are the largest group of abandoned dogs at the Florida Keys Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, yet they are one of the most devoted and gentle breeds, he said. Yaniz encouraged the community to move past the stereotypes and help the FKSPCA find good adoptive homes for these loyal companions.
