Two families who tragically lost their sons were commended by the City Commission this week for joining together and raising $30,000 to donate to the Nicklaus Children's Hospital Heart Institute.
Harrison Axel Esquinaldo was born on May 18, 2016, and passed away at 11 days old due to complex congenital heart defects. Max Thomas Scanlon passed away at his birth on October 10, 2019, due to heart defects.
The families came up with a way to honor their sons and help other families facing this unthinkable tragedy.
In April, Max's Angels and Esky Rods hosted the second annual Reelin' for The Cause' Kids' Fishing Tournament at the Edward B. Knight White Street Pier. With the help of civic organizations and the community, they could raise a donation for the heart institute.
The family noted that they couldn’t do it without the incredible support from the community.
